Morbid Manor is a mansion filled with puzzles, mazes, and attractions themed around the short stories and poems by Edgar Allen Poe, bringing the mystery and morbid tales to life. The main structure would be the mansion, which is 3 stories high. The house would be inspired by the layouts and styles of north eastern american mansions from the 1800’s, such as; Castle Hill Ipswich in Massachusetts, Cairnwood Bryn Athyn and Fonthill Doylestown in Pennsylvania. It will also take inspiration from gothic european castle decorations on the outside. The first floor will open into a large foyer. In front of the door will be a grand staircase to the second floor, behind which will be an exit to the backyard and an entrance to one of the restaurants. The entire first floor will be themed around the short story, “Masque of the Red Death”. To the right of the entrance to a dark ride that goes through the first floor, playing out the story. The line would consist of an extension of the foyer so it will feel as though you are waiting to get into the ballroom. The “Masque of the Red Death” restaurant will be placed behind the ballroom, being able to see into the dark ride through hidden windows. The food will be elegant party food, a sit down kind of restaurant.
On the second floor will be a show and various rooms to explore. The study will be to the right of the staircase and the line leading into the study will be lined with book cases. The show in the study will be inspired by the Raven. It will vary on what the show consists of; it might be a re-enactment or it could be an interaction with the Raven itself. To the left there will be rooms, one of which will be poe’s and the other will rotate a character from a short story or a poem. Poe’s room will be like a small museum that will help people learn more about the author. The character room will change daily or weekly and be decorated according to the story/poem the character is from, small items will be available for guests to interact with and occasionally an actor will play the character and be there to talk to guests.
The third floor will be an attic with a puzzle room and snack carts. It’ll be the floor with the largest open space, the snack/food carts will be decorated behind boxes and trinkets as will the tables be. The puzzle room will be themed around the “Tell Tale Heart”. Additionally there will be bathrooms on the third and first floor and an elevator that is hidden in a column that is decorating the outside of the building.
Once guests exit the mansion, they will be greeted with a well kept garden and a hedge maze that is themed around “Gold Bug” a short story about searching for treasure. Much more light hearted it will be a fun maze adventure or a treasure hunt depending on what the guest would like. In the back right corner of the backyard will be a small cemetery with a mausoleum in the very back corner. The mausoleum will be a gift shop and serve as the exit to the whole experience as well.
