Assessment: Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom

What is your reaction to the text you just read?
The general feeling the text leaves me with so far is confused. Whether that is because I haven't read that far or not would be seen if I read on but as of where I'm at in the text, I'm not really interested in reading more. They're establishing a small society structure in Disney with one girl which is an interesting enough premise but it isn't well explained on what that means in general. Are there more like her? It is mentioned that she is only in charge of so much so who is in charge of the rest? They also mention that their are still guests, so clearly this isn't what all of society is like. If so, what is the rest of the world like at this point in time that is being created? While I'm sure these questions will be answered later, I don't think they should be my main thoughts as I initially read, I should have a general understanding of they two main character's world (even if it isn't a complete understanding) but the characters themselves have phones in their ears and can transfer data to each other which I feel has no relevance to the fact that the girl lives in a society in Disney world.

What connection did you make with the story? Discuss the elements of the story with which you were able to connect.
As a Disney fan, I could relate with the idea of enjoying the park after hours. Getting to see the rides without guests and the behind the scenes aspects of the park is cool to me, so I could relate to the girl enjoying that aspect of her job. The haunted mansion is also my favorite ride so I related to that as well. Otherwise I didn't have any connection to the male character.

What changes would you make to adopt this story into another medium? What medium would you use? What changes would you make?
I would establish setting first, all the questions I mentioned in the first question would need to be addressed in some way, even if it was just to minimize peoples need to ask them by revealing the whole setting later. I wouldn't start with the prologue. I have no idea what medium I'd use, I'd want to read more to make a definitive decision, but as of now I'd say movie. Something where you can see the setting without having to say so many things to make people too confused onto what the society that is happening is.

A mansion filled with puzzle and mazes themed around the short stories and poems by Edgar Allen Poe. Bringing the mystery and morbid tales to life. The main structure would be the mansion, which is 3 stories high. The house would be inspired by the layouts and styles of north eastern american mansions from the 1800’s, such as; Castle Hill Ipswich in Massachusetts, Cairnwood Bryn Athyn and Fonthill Doylestown in Pennsylvania. It will also take inspiration from gothic european castle ornamental decorations, which decorates the outer-part of the structure. The first floor of the mansion will open into a large foyer. In front of the door will be a grand staircase to the second floor. Behind the stairs will be an exit to the backyard and underneath the stairs will be the entrance to one of the restaurants. Nerd Trope: Radio Vampires

NBC (National Broadcasting Company) network officially launched their radio operations on November 15, 1923. They were working with WEAF and WJZ. Both of which were companies affiliated with AT&T who, at the time, were the owners of the radio lines. WEAF was stationed in New York City; while WJZ originated in Newark, New Jersey and after the their purchase from Westinghouse, were moved to New York City as well. On the night of the launching of NBC reporters were calling it the most pretentious programing line-up broadcasting had ever seen. After a few years live, NBC formally divided into two networks, Red and Blue. The Red station, closer affiliated to WEAF, was their staple station. It hosted the more popular and stronger programs. While the Blue station, closer affiliated to WJZ, was used to test drive unaired programs or host less popular programs, such as news. It had been said that the network was split because of the colored pins being placed on their bulletin board, but...

Worlds and Archetypes: Photo Theme Park

Every Tuesday afternoon at Faire Graves Cemetery, the sound of a carnival can be heard across the field and out the gate. The spirits of the cemetery will set up their Fair for the living to enjoy. The different times the spirits had inhabited in life comes together to create a hodgepodge of attractions and characters to be found at the Fair. Classic Fair games are set up, 3 or 4 of each game, all slightly modified throughout the years. Their patron calls visitors over, luring them with better prizes as the years go on, or collectables that you can’t get anywhere else in the earlier years. An array of foods from different eras and areas are spread out on large tables together. The dishes don’t mind being mixed into a different year, all knowing they are delicious in their own right. Past the pie eating contests is an open lot where shiney new vintage cars gleam in the sun. Vehicles ranging from classic Ice cream trucks to vintage beetles are admired and bragged about. As the yea...
